Bio

How did you get started in Bodybuilding Andy?
Andy Haman Interview

I was born in 1966 in Iowa City, Iowa. I attended City High School and was an all American team member and State Champion in wrestling. I compiled a high school record 210-0-10 and went on to the University of Iowa to wrestle for the Iowa Hawkeyes. While there I was a National freestyle champion, Olympic sport Festival Champion and World runner-up in wrestling as a Varsity team member of 4 National Championship Wrestling Teams Coached by the infamous Dan Gable.

After only a year and half of training 5 hours per day- I captured and won the Masters National title in the Superheavy weight class and overall title to earn IFBB pro status. Truly a young boy’s Dream, that started in an average Iowa town, in an average Iowa basement to an average Iowa kid with a not so average brother who pushed me to be a Pro!

I give credit to my hero and older brother for influencing me and motivating me to become a better person, student and athlete through hard work. With the help of my 11 year son Sam working with me during evening cardio sessions and the assistance of our daughters Daisy, Ruby and Lucy in the kitchen cooking and cleaning during meal prep, and the 25 years of support and love from my wife Michelle.

Where does your craazy behaviour come from?

Andy Haman Interview

Team Haman is all about Fun, and enjoying the ride as well as the destination! I have spent so many years as a young man Focusing so much on outcomes and final goals, that I would often not enjoy the time getting there.

I would spend much of my day grumbling around and always thinking that there would better days ahead or say “I can’t wait till this date or that time and miss out on many days in between and many fun and memorable moments!

Michelle and I have tried to raise our children with a different attitude and laugh, work and even cry a little each day. This has been my goal as a pro bodybuilder to show the public and fans that even Pro Athletes can be normal, silly and fun everyday!

The whip cream thing like many of my stunts was a combination of my kids and me filming for a TV show tryout. We thought it would fun to not only lift a huge amount of weight but also throw some whip cream on me to show just how strong I was and how easy it could be to do the lift!

We also show me playing and goofing around with Fans every chance we can to bring down the barrier that often follows a Bodybuilder in everyday life as a mean and standoffish person. This way the Fans know I am approachable and willing to chat with them when ever!

What has Bodybuilding taught you?
Andy Haman Interview

I have trained my whole life! Whether for wrestling or bodybuilding and I can’t imagine ever not being able to get in the gym and move de’Iron! Training has done many things for me, the obvious, it has shaped and built my physique over the some 30 years–I am 44 years old and I have probably done more lifting and cardio than any other Pro still competing that’s for sure!

If i had to sum up what Bodybuilding has really taught me, it would be this:

Push yourself–push yourself physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Our body and mind is more powerful than we know and can take much more than any of us can give it!

So go ahead and do the work, do the work in the gym and leave it, move on and do your daily job, chores and family things as the should be done. Then-start over and do it again, and make your days into weeks – months then years, and you be proud of you accomplishments and know you have done your best for your family and for yourself.

What does your diet look like?

What is your training style / routine ?

Andy Haman Interview

Training style!? Hmmmmmmmmm, Hard, Strong, Consistant and Fun! I think with many things in all of our lives , “things change”. You bet things have changed for me too- I’ve trained heavy,Fast , slow, Light, mean ,nasty, nice, fluffy, and scientific!. So I’ve taken what I think works and left most of the bullshit behind.

I have kept many of the giant and superset system in my training daily and through the week for each MG, And left a bit of heavy lifting for each muscle group a few times pet month only. However, I still hit cardio everyday as it seems to help keep me lean and not as Mean! Its a great stress reliever !

What are the biggest challenges you have faced?
Andy Haman Interview

My biggest challenge in life? Putting others needs- wants demands and life in front of mine With a large Family the above has to be, with out it – it dont work…

And as for Bodybuilding, well travel has been a huuuuuuge challenge. Eating like a bird to keep my abs, being sore, letting people touch me, smiling, showing Fans Im happy and nice. Talking with people nonstop, about the game- and trying to let people know we, us Bodybuilders! are just like everyone else! We love, play , cry , have bad days , good days and are as normal as the next guy! OOPS, Normal with 23 inch Biceps!

Is there anyone who really inspires you?

Andy Haman Interview

Wow! that’s a toughie!. Lots of people have been influential in my career to be perfectly honest, but the ones who have inspired me more than most in my career are my Family.
My children always inspire me to work my hardest, and my wife always has encouraged me through my life in whatever mundane, modest or whacky thing I get myself into!

She is the smartest, strongest most beautiful Power that has pushed me,
Loved me and held my hand in times of stress and Celebration!

Many people in the industry have inspired me though such as Dave Palumbo from RX Muscle, Michael Cassid, President of Dymatize nutrition – Jeff Boyle of Flex Gym and many other individuals have given me many opportunities, motivation and wisdom along the way.

However, without My Family and my Marriage to Michelle – “There would be No Bodybuilding”

Do you use Supplements, If so which ones?

I used Dymatize Products for five years prior to even being signed as a Dymatize Team Athlete! I have always loved their Protein! And it remains Today the Best Mixing, Smoothest and best tasting protein on the Market! I have been in this game for over 30 years and believe me I have tried it all. Elite Protein gives me a complete protein with virtually no carbs! And is easily mixed on the go with water with no Chunkies!

Suggested Bodybuilding Supplements

Dymatize Protein..DymatizeProtein

Fusion is Dymatized New Gourmet protein with an appeal to more people because of it taste and Milk shake Taste! I take this when I need a little more carbs and I want more flavor! Viper and Xteme Xpand give me a boost into my intense workouts that I cant get from any other product and I always speak their benifits to fans and peolpe who are looking for a great Pre workout combo!

Elite Protein Bars are Gobbeled up by me and my kids because they offer 30 grams of high quality protein with super low sugar and taste well as we said before Redonkulous!
